What is within my heart?

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” - Proverbs 4:23NLT. Whatever the heart loves, the ears will hear and the eyes will see. If we pollute that wellspring the infection will spread before long-hidden appetites will become open sins and public shame. The Bible warns us to avoid a double heart. “They speak deceitful and worthless words to one another; With flattering lips and a double heart they speak.” - Psalms 12:2 AMP. In other words, a double hearted person is classified as double-minded men, who say one thing, and mean another; their words are not to be depended upon; there is no faithfulness in them. James tells us that a double-minded man is unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides].” - James 1:8 AMP.

The Bible also warns us also to avoid a hard heart. "Blessed and favored by God is the man who fears [sin and its consequence] at all times, But he who hardens his heart [and is determined to sin] will fall into disaster.” - Proverbs 28:14 AMP. Meaning that you don't care for your neighbor, and you determined to sin against God by keeping on doing sin and by rejecting Him as your God and Saviour. When you harden your heart you will be cut off from God, you will be spiritually dead. Paul says in Romans 6:23 that sinners will die, or at least that they will not go to heaven: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Furthermore, we are also warned to avoid having a proud heart, and an unbelieving heart, a cold heart, and an unclean heart, and an inordinately. In other words to have a high opinion of oneself; being arrogant or haughty.“Haughty and arrogant eyes and a proud heart, The lamp of the wicked [their self-centered pride], is sin [in the eyes of God].” - Proverbs 21:4 AMP.

Take care, brothers and sisters, that there not be in any one of you a wicked, unbelieving heart [which refuses to trust and rely on the Lord, a heart] that turns away from the living God.” - Hebrews 3:12 AMP. The only sin God cannot forgive is the sin of refusing to turn to Him and accept His forgiveness. A person with an unbelieving heart is one that does not believe in a particular religious faith or one that does not believe and an incredulous person a doubter, and a skeptic. Putting it another way is, the only sin God can't forgive is the sin of unbelief. He forgave us by sending His Son into the world to become the final and complete sacrifice for your sins..“For God, so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.” - John 3:16 AMP.

“Because lawlessness is increased, the love of most people will grow cold.” - Matthew 24:12 AMP. Someone having a cold or unclean heart is someone that loves the things of the world and the love of the Father is not in them. Lacking the love for God is because love for the world has taken over the heart. Love for God begins to get choked out. because they love money, adultery, and lusts of the flesh, the lusts of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life. Remember, the love of the Father and the love of the world cannot coexist. Paul says in Ephesians 5 that no unclean person has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. “For be sure of this: no immoral, impure, or greedy person—for that one is [in effect] an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God [for such a person places a higher value on something other than God].” - Ephesians 5:5 AMP

We need to guard our hearts against all these things, we must not love the things of the world we must rather run to Jesus as our all-satisfying treasure. Like David said: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a right and steadfast spirit within me.” - Psalms 51:10 AMP. None of us was born with a clean heart. This pure heart was something that did not exist! We all sinned before God. That why we need to confess our sins before God and repent from our wicked ways and turn to Christ us our savior. When your heart is pure and known sins are confessed, there are no roadblocks to fellowship with God through His Holy Spirit.

We must ask God every day to create in us a pure heart and to renew a steadfast spirit within us. Do not cast us from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation and grant us a willing spirit, to sustain us. When we do this we will be able to guard our heart and we will sustain our faith and relationship with God walking in His presence and His love for us then we will be able to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul. Amen.
